Here's the release from the Lehigh sports information department:
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head coach Andy Coen has finalized the Mountain Hawks’ 2014 recruiting class with the addition of two student-athletes who will join the program in the fall. Coen has added quarterback Brendan Craven and defensive back Chris Sarni to a class that now includes 21 players who will be freshmen in the fall plus transfer running back Brandon Yosha from Miami.
Both Craven and Sarni hail from Massachusetts and come to Lehigh after taking post-graduate years at preparatory schools.
Craven is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound quarterback from Pembroke, Mass. He attended Boston College High School before taking a post-grad year at Choate Rosemary Hall. Craven is coming off a season in which he completed 110-of-168 passes for 1,069 yards and ten touchdowns, while also rushing 62 times for 402 yards and five scores. He was tabbed by ESPN Recruiting as a top 100 pocket passer in the nation.
A two-time Scholar-Athlete award recipient, Craven quarterbacked Boston College High School to three conference championships and the Massachusetts Division I State title in 2012. He plans to study business at Lehigh.
Sarni was a standout defensive back at Wellesley High School before moving on to the Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound safety was a team captain and team most valuable player at Wellesley and was recognized as an All-Conference performer as well as an All-Eastern Massachusetts selection.
A four-year honor roll student, Sarni intends to study in Lehigh's College Arts and Sciences.
“We have now wrapped up our 2014 class and I’m happy to welcome Chris and Brendan as new members of this class,” Coen said. “Chris is a versatile athlete who established himself as a defensive back during his time at Loomis Chaffee. He will be good addition to a strong group of secondary players we recruited this year.
He continued, “Brendan joins us from Choate Rosemary Hall where he was a very productive quarterback. He will add depth to the quarterback position.”
Lehigh’s original 19 player class was announced on February 5 with defensive back Marc Raye-Redmond added early last week. The Mountain Hawks’ incoming class now includes four defensive backs, and two student-athletes who project as quarterbacks in Craven and Matt Timochenko.
The Mountain Hawks will begin their spring practice segment on Friday March 21.
