Bob Linn has resigned as Dieruff's softball coach

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER I have been asking about this for awhile, but finally got confirmation this morning that Bob Linn has resigned as Dieruff's softball coach. Linn, a well-known personality in the softball community, coached the Huskies for six seasons and won just nine games in that span. His team was 0-14 in the LVC and 1-19 overall last spring with the lone win over coming over Lincoln Academy Charter School. Linn, 65, did the best he could with a tough situation as Dieruff simply didn't have the numbers of kids who played tournament ball that most of the other schools in the LVC have. He was much more successful, of course, at Central Catholic where he coached for 11 seasons from 1992-2002 and went 174-94. His Vikettes won the District 11 title in his first season (1992) and won the East Penn Conference title in his last season (2002). Linn, who is the father of former CCHS and University of Notre Dame pitching standout Melissa Linn, helped to produce many of the area's top pitchers while at CCHS including Sheelin Fisher and Jenn Shellhammer. "We're doing our interviews right now for the next coach," Dieruff athletic director Mel Riddick said. "We'd like to get the new coach in place as soon as possible so that the new coach has some time to work with the kids and the kids get to know the new coach before practice starts in March. We're in the process of hiring a coach right now." As for Linn, Riddick said: "We appreciate what Bob did for us. He put a lot of time into this program." Of more immediate concern than the softball program is that Dieruff needs a boys swimming coach. Practice for the upcoming season has already begun. At the moment, girls coach Tanya Klegarth is running both teams.
