"Colvin Offense" ready to take flight for Lehigh on Saturday

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER If Mike Colvin (No. 15 below) handles opposing defenses as well as he handles the press, the Lehigh offense is going to be just fine this season. Lehigh held its first weekly media luncheon today, advancing Saturday's season opener against Monmouth, and Colvin, the team's new starting quarterback, was one of two players brought in to chat with various media members, including yours truly.Colvin He went from table-to-table and microphone-to-taperecorder with ease. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Morristown, N.J., native is very comfortable talking about himself, his offense, his team. My guess is that he will be very good in the post-game media sessions as well and if Colvin is in there, that means he has generally played very well. A sampling from today's session: "After a long winter, spring session and preseason camp, it's just going to be fun going against guys wearing different colors, especially in front of a home crowd," Colvin said. "It's going to be a lot of fun with a lot of excitement. I think everybody's going to be hyped up and ready to go. "We feel physically prepared. We have a few days to finalize the mental preparation, but it's going to be fun to go out and compete. That's what it's all about." I asked Colvin if he was tired of hearing about him having to replace Chris Lum. He handled that well, too. "I think he deserves to be in the conversation; he deserves that type of recognition," Colvin said referring to Lum. "He was great to watch and learn from. He was beneficial in my development and it was a blessing in disguise to play behind Chris. As a competitor, you want to be out on the field. Now it's my opportunity and I've set the bar very high because that's where it should be. The coaches and offensive coordinator [Dave Cecchini] expect it to be there and our team expects it to be there. "That's where I believe I can compete. I am confident in my ability." Colvin may not be Lum and things may not go smoothly right out of the gate on Saturday. But you sense this is a quality kid, a leader, and at first glance, it appears the Lehigh offense is going to be capable hands this season.
