Sports Media Digest- February 22, 2012

More Big Ratings Numbers for the PGA on CBS- CBS Sports today announced that the ratings for the final round of the PGA Tour’s Northern Trust Open came in at 4.2, up 83% over 2011 and the higest rating for the tournament in nine years. The 6.2million viewers forthe tournament was also the highest in nine years. For the four “West Coast” swing tournaments on CBS, ratings were up 24% over last year (2.6 vs. 2.1).

Ohio State/Michigan State Big Ten Wildcard Game for CBS- CBS Sports announced today that it has selected Ohio State at Michigan State for it’s Big Ten Wildcard telecast for Sunday March 4th. Tip-off will be at 4:00p.m. ET withVerne Lundquist and Clark Kellogg on the call.

Boxing After Dark Returns to HBO this Weekend- HBO Sports will once again produce it’s Boxing After Dark series beginning this Saturday. The two bout event will begin at 10:00p.m. ET with Devon Alexander taking on Marcos Maidana and Adrien Broner vs. Eloy Perez. Prior to the bouts, at 9:45p.m. ET HBO will debut of a new 15-minute edition of “2 Days: Portrait of a Fighter,” offering an intimate look at junior middleweight James Kirkland.

Hank Haney Project Returns to Golf Channel on Monday- The fourth season of the Hank Haney Project will debut this Monday at 9:00p.m. ET on the Golf Channel. This year’s porgram will follow Haney as he works with four celebrity students; The Voice Adam Levine, legendary boxer Sugar Ray Leonard, acclaimed chef Mario Batali and former supermodel Angie Everhart. Monday’s debut will be the first of eight shows in the series.

Duke Hoops Documentary to Air On truTV- A documentary looking at the Duke basketball teams of 1991 and 1992 will debut on truTV March 11th at 8:00p.m. ET. DUKE 91 & 92: Back to Back is being produced by former Blue Devils Grant Hill and Christian Laettner. The hour long documentary looks back at Duke’s back-to-back championships, the first in 20 years.
