Parkland High School baseball team defeats Nazareth in Lehigh Valley Conference championship game

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

D.C. Castillo went 4-for-4 and Matt Nelson pitched a four-hitter today to lead Parkland High School's baseball team to a 5-1 victory over Nazareth in the Lehigh Valley Conference championship game at Sammy Balliet Stadium in Coplay.

The win guarantees the Trojans (17-4) the top seed in the District 11 Class AAAA playoffs, which begin Monday.

"It was a warm day and we fell a little flat," Nazareth coach Jon Lock said. "But I tip my hat to Parkland. They played a hell of a game."

Earlier, Nazareth (19-3) advanced to the final with a 6-3 victory over Liberty. Jordan Smith pitched the first four innings for the win and delivered a tie-breaking two-run single in the third inning.

Dan Shepherd had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for the Blue Eagles.

Parkland defeated Emmaus, 8-1, behind Matt Hurd's pitching in the first game of the tripleheader.
